Bobsweep's sensors allow him to detect what type of surface he is on and will shift his cleaning mode accordingly. For example, while vacuuming on carpet Bob will move a bit slower and use more power to really pull up what has been buried in the carpet fibers; when he transitions to hardwood however, Bobsweep will immediately adjust to the appropriate speed and power for that surface. Bobsweep is able to climb about 2 centimeters when transitioning between surfaces, which makes him one of the most versatile vacuum cleaning robots in the market. This being said, please keep in mind that not every time Bobsweep encounters a transition, does he decide to move over to the next area. Sometimes, he avoids making the transition to clean his current area further before moving on.
